Since the latter half of 2023, I’ve been producing, either solo or in partnership, “Special Edition’ digital magazines for major medical conferences, a service that is fast catching on as medical societies and associations see the utility of these eye-catching products.
My clients so far include the Rural Doctors’ Association of SA, the SA Medical Association, the Board of Healthcare Funders, and the inaugural Outcomes and Measurement Reporting cyber conference. All have been delighted with the results and the RUDASA folk posted the link to their post-conference chat site which immediately went ‘viral’ among their members. Benefits include widening the clients’ media footprint, membership recruitment, and boosting delegate attendance for next year’s conference. The service can be pivoted to produce newsletters, monthly or bi-monthly magazines or simple one-offs on any theme or topic.
I work with Roy Watson, a well-known veteran health journo with a strong medical publishing background, and Shantal Moodley, a talented design and layout artist. We take our own pictures and work closely with clients, who often, if budgets are thin or pre-allocated, work creatively with appropriate sponsors or exhibitors to fund travel, accommodation, and production costs – in return for prominent magazine branding. Advertisers are increasingly showing interest as these magazines take their products directly to the appropriate healthcare provider’s eyes.
